Samosa Chaat: A savory delight

Samosa is popular Indian street food. It is made of potato and other veggie filling wrapped in dough, like dumplings, but the wrapping technique and dough texture is different from dumpling. It is a beloved food in Nepal and as well as all around the world with the south asian diaspora. Samosa is best served with chiya/chai.

Samosa itself is a dish and samosa chaat is another dish derived from samosa. It is a savory snack or can be a meal too. It is full of flavors hidden in different layers of textures. You will just have to add few ingredients to your samosa and you will get the samosa chaat. Most of the ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen/ pantry. You will find samosa, chaat masala, and bhujia (spicy, crispy snack made from tepary beans) in Indian grocery stores.

Serving – 2 Time – 10 min

Ingredients:

  • 4 samosas
  • 1 can of chickpea
  • Plain Greek yogurt
  • Chopped onion & cilantro
  • Chaat masala (optional)
  • 1 or 2 slice of lemon
  • Bhujia

Process:
Heat samosas. If you want crispy samosa, use the oven to heat. Break samosa into pieces, 2 on each plate. Drain chickpea and add to samosa. You can use less or more chickpea depending on how you like it. Add two generous dollops of yogurt. Mix 1 tsp chaat masala in 1/2 cup of drinking water and mix well. This will give chaat flavor to your chaat and prevent your chaat from being dry. Add the chaat masala water just so enough it is mixed in with ingredients on the plate and isn’t runny. If you are not using chaat masala, just add a little more yogurt. Drizzle lemon. Garnish with Bhujia. It gives that perfect crispy texture and spicy flavor for the chaat. And, garnish with some chopped cilantro and onion. Enjoy the delicious, spicy, and easiest samosa chat!
