Local Coffee Shop
It was a cool and calm morning in May. I was at my friend’s place. We all know the excitement of meeting an old friend who is very close to you but lives apart. I was thrilled to be visiting my old friend in Springfield, Illinois. That morning she wanted to take me to a local coffee shop.
We both got ready into our floral dresses, hopped in her car and drove off to our destination. Incredibly Delicious – that’s the name of the coffee shop/bakery. As we were walking towards it from parking I could not help but wonder how aesthetic the place was. It was a well-preserved historic mansion. We entered the main gate only to see a lush green garden with some blooming roses. A walkway through the garden led us to the door to the counter. Then, we placed our order and went on to find a table.
We found a perfect spot inside, by the window. I always like to sit outside or at least by the window and eat while enjoying the environment outside. With the morning sunlight view in the garden, talking my life away with my dearest girl pal over some fresh croissants, scones, and coffee; that was one of the best mornings I had in a long time. Thanks to my girl! We also explored a little inside the mansion. There were multiple rooms with a seating area. The walls were decorated with magnificent art and the rooms had a variety of handicrafts. Overall, it had a sheer soulful ambiance.
It felt like I had been waiting for this day for so long. I usually drink my coffee while driving to work and there are mornings when I crave to just sit, relax, and enjoy my coffee. That day I realized two things. First, the simple joy of enjoying a coffee while not on the move. Second, the charm of the local coffee place. Since that day, I tell my friends Starbucks are overrated; go to your local coffee shop (at least once in a while). It’s most likely less crowded, more peaceful and you will get to enjoy the local taste and culture.
