Two (not so) hidden gems in Detroit
East Detroit is one of the best places I visited in 2019. My friend from South Carolina was visiting me for Christmas. We decided to go see some murals in Detroit. I was glad I finally got to do some outing in Detroit because despite calling Detroit my home for almost two years I haven’t really gotten around to see the city.
Murals in the Market is located near Eastern Market. Parking is available in front of Eastern Market(and it’s free). Also, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants around if you want to grab lunch or a quick bite.
We also added the Heidelberg Project (HP) in our exploration. HP is a non-profit organization with outdoor art display. I must say this is the most unique art form I have ever seen. Art doesn’t have to be sophisticated. It could be something created out of objects we use in our daily lives or not use anymore. Quite impressive!
Parking is free, anywhere on the street. Donation of any amount is appreciated.
Mural in the Market and the Heidelberg Project; two contrasting art forms but equally aesthetic. These arts reflect immense hope and resilience thriving in the city. Kudos to all the artists involved! I couldn’t appreciate more the artistic and cultural richness of Detroit.
